Hinda App

I have two passions, talk, and hair. During my postgraduate certificate in interactive media management, I created this piece of work that I am truly proud of. I transmit my love of hair and my hair story into an app that will help black women love and appreciate their crowns. It's not just about hair; it's about self-love.

Project type: Prototype and Business plan

- Google Docs

The Problem

Being a black woman, taking care of natural hair can be difficult, time-consuming, and expensive. Facing criticism for afro-textured hair and being rejected because of our hair texture and type is discouraging and affecting our mental health, especially the perception that little black girls will create.

The solution

The solution will be to create a platform where black women can learn more about afro-textured hair and how to maintain it. Moreover, the platform needs to act as a journal for the users. Users will be free to ask questions and share their advancements on their hair journey. This is not only about hair but self-care.

HINDA APP

The app will be called Hinda. Why Hinda? Because this is easy to pronounce in every language and sounds beautiful. Hinda means "black" in Bassa, a language spoken by the Bassa ethnic group in Cameroon.

Hinda will be a mobile-first app that will help black women, primarily with maintaining and treating their hair. The app will help users in their daily hair routines, pick the right products, learn how to do protective hairstyles, choose hairstylists, and everything based on their hair type and texture.

Moreover, the app also offers a paid subscription where users will receive a box containing new products to try or hair ingredients to conceive their hair products every month. Again, everything is based on the user's hair type.

When users download the app, they land on the sign-in/up screen. After signing up, a screen will appear for choosing a method to learn more about their hair type. They can take a survey ( answer questions to determine hair type), take a picture ( the app will analyze the hair on the picture to give an approximate result), or if the user already knows his hair type, they can enter directly.

Based on the method chosen and the results, Hinda will give lists of recommendations, including hair tips, hair tutorials, hairstylists, and hair products. All recommendations include reviews, phone numbers, prices, and locations.

The users will have the opportunity to use our scanner tool to scan products in stores to know if the product is appropriate to their hair types.

Finally, the app offers to add a child account with the same features as the primary account.

The process

Draft logo

I started thinking about a logo using canvas and asked myself questions such as :

- What do I want my users to see first?

- What images are related to my brand?

- Who is my target audience?

Final logo

I started working on the concept and what needed to be included on the prototype

Since Hinda is an educative platform on afro-textured hair, Hinda will include a test or a quiz to understand the user's hair type and teach some keywords such as hair texture and hair type.

The use of language needs to be easy to understand because the target audience is enormous.

I want to include a subscription for a unique experience. Users will have the opportunity to receive products at their door.

I started prototyping using canva

I let my creativity and imagination work. I started playing with tools using Canva, which inspired me from existing apps for the colors, UI, and UX design. I then used Invision to prototype it.
